V. plicatum f. tomentosum – V. tomentosum – Doublefile Viburnum – Japanese Snowball – This horizontally branched, deciduous shrub from China and Japan, grows 10-15’ feet tall and wide. It produces serrated edged pointed oval, mid green leaves, 2-4” long, softly hairy beneath, turning burgundy-red in autumn. In midspring, it produces, lacecap like cymes, to 4” across. Egg shaped red fruit, 3/8” long ripen to black.

Grow in any moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun or partial shade, most are drought tender. Where not hardy, shelter from cold drying winds. Most deciduous Viburnums tolerate hard pruning.
