Veronica ‘Crater Lake Blue’

V. austriaca subsp. teucrium – V. teucrium – This clump forming perennial from North temperate areas of Europe and Asia, grows 18-36” tall and 24” wide. It produces broadly oval to oblong, scalloped or deeply toothed, hairy, grayish green leaves, to 3” long. Over a long period in summer, it bears abundant, upright spike like racemes, 4-6” long of saucer shaped true blue flowers.
‘Crater Lake Blue’ -grows 12-16” tall and blooms earlier
Veronicas are easily grown. The alpine and rock garden grow well in poor to moderately fertile, well drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Protect those with felted leaves from excessive winter moisture. Grow border veronicas in loamy, moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Grow V. beccabunga in wet soil, or in water to 5” deep. Divide perennials in autumn or spring.
