Veronica spicata ‘Royal Candles’
V. spicata – V. kellereri – Digger Speedwell – Spike Speedwell – This mat forming perennial with rooting stems from Europe to Turkey grows 12-24” tall and 18”-3’ feet wide. It produces mid green, linear to lanceolate shaped, toothed, hairy leaves, to 3” long. From early to late summer, it bears star shaped, bright blue flowers, with long purple stamens in dense pyramidal, terminal racemes, to 12” long.
perennial – Veronicas are easily grown. The alpine and rock garden grow well in poor to moderately fertile, well drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Protect those with felted leaves from excessive winter moisture. Grow border veronicas in loamy, moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Grow V. beccabunga in wet soil, or in water to 5” deep. Divide perennials in autumn or spring.
