Description
V. angustifolium var. laevifolium – Lowbush – Blueberry – This Eastern and central Canada species in a low spreading, densely branched deciduous shrub growing to any where from 4-24” tall and wide. It produces lance shaped, minutely toothed, glossy, blue green leaves to 1 ½” long turning purple in autumn. Bell shaped white, sometimes pink tinged flowers, ½” long are borne in pendent, axillary ant terminal racemes to 2” long, in mid and late spring, they are followed by edible, sweet, spherical, blue-black berries, to ½” across. Prefers well-drained acidic soil.
Grow in acidic, peaty or sandy, moist but well drained soil in full sun or partial shade, some prefer boggy ground. Protect from the hottest summer sun.
