H. androsaemum – Tutsan – This bushy deciduous shrub found from Western and Southwestern Europe, Mediterranean into Western Asia grows 30″ tall and 36″ wide. From erect branches it carries broadly oblong to egg shaped, mid green leaves, to 6″ long, paler green beneath. From mid summer to autumn it bears cymes of up to 11 star shaped or cupped, golden yellow flowers, to 1″ across, followed spherical or egg shaped red, berry like fruit ripening to black.

‘Albury Purple’ – produces purple flushed leaves.

Grow in moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil, the larger species in sun or partial shade, the dwarf species in full sun and in sharply drained soil. Grow H. elodes along the margins of muddy-bottomed pool, in no more than 1″ of water, in dappled shade. Protect small rock garden species from excessive winter moisture, shelter evergreen Hypericums from cold, drying winds.
