Description

Darwin Hybrid Group (Division 4) – These single tulips grow 14-24″ tall, and bear ovoid flowers, to 3″ across are the result of hybridization either between cultivars of former Darwin Group with T. fosteriana or between other cultivars and botanical tulips which have the same habit and in which the wild plant is not evident, in brightly colored shades of yellow, pink, orange, or red, usually flushed, flamed, or edged with a different color, and often with contrasting bases. Mid or late season flowering, leaves are upright and4-14″ long. Not to be confused with the old Darwin Tulips. Suitable for bedding and good cut flowers

Select tulips cultivars and species based on hardiness zones. Most tulips require a long cold winter and dry summer and thrive in Zones 4-6.In Zones 7-8, fewer are adaptable. In Zones 9-10, they should be grown as annuals, and bulbs must be precooled at 40–45 degree Fahrenheit for 8-10 weeks before planting. Grow in fertile well drained, neutral to slightly acidic soil in full or afternoon sun. In Zones 7-10. Choose a shady site or one with morning sun only.
