Description

S. nipponica – Nippon Spirea – This vigorous upright to spreading, deciduous shrub from Japan grows 4-8′ feet tall and wide.From arching branches it carries oval to egg shaped, dark green leaves, up to 1 1/4″ long, either smooth edged or with a few teeth at the tips, glaucous beneath.In mid summer, bowl shaped pure white flowers open in terminal corymbs, to 1 ½” across

‘Snowmound’ – var. tosaenssis of gardens– is fast growing and spreading with smaller leaves.

Grow in fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun.Some grow poorly on chalk.Prune those that flower on current years growth in spring, and those that flowers on previous year growth, which should have old flowering shoots removed just after flowering.
