Spiraea jap. ‘Froebelii’

Description

S. japonica – Japanese Spirea – This low mound or clump forming, deciduous shrub from Japan, Korea, and China grows 6′ feet tall and 5′ feet wide.From erect shoots it carries egg to lance shaped, sharply toothed, dark green leaves, to 5″ long, are gray-green beneath.In late spring to mid summer, bears bowl shaped, pink or white flowers, in terminal corymbs, to 8″ across.

‘Froebelii’ – has bronze-red young leaves and large corymbs of deep pink flowers

Grow in fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun.Some grow poorly on chalk.Prune those that flower on current years growth in spring, and those that flowers on previous year growth, which should have old flowering shoots removed just after flowering.
