Description

x Sophrolaeliocattleya This tri-generic hybrid genus of evergreen orchids derived from crosses between Sophronitis, Laelia, and Cattleya. They have similar foliage to Laeliocatteyas, and all are loosely referred to as Cattleyas. The spindle shaped or elongated pseudobulbs support 1 or 2 semi rigid, elliptic leaves, to 6″ long. Flat flowers with a small labellum up to 4″ across, are available in a wide range of colors, from vibrant red to fiery oranges and yellows, are borne singly or in racemes of up to 6 blooms, they are produced from the tops of the pseudobulbs at anytime of year. Intermediate growing orchids (see chart below). Grow in containers of porous, terrestrial orchid potting mix. During the growing season, provide bright indirect light, and water freely, apply a half strength balanced liquid fertilizer monthly, mist daily and maintain high humidity. In winter, provide full light and water sparingly. Prone to scale insects, spider mites, aphids, and mealybugs.
