S. spectabile – Hylotelephium spectabile – Ice Plant – Everlasting – Showy Sedum – Showy Stonecrop – This clump forming, deciduous perennial from China and Korea grows 18″ tall and wide. From upright, unbranched green stems it carries opposite or whorled, spoon shaped, slightly scalloped, toothed, gray-green leaves, to 3″ long. In late summer, star shaped pink flowers, to ½” across with prominent stamens, are borne in dense flat cymes, to 6″ across, often causing the too flop over from the weight of the flowerheads. Attractive to bee’s and butterflies. Grow in moderately fertile, well drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil in full sun. Vigorous species tolerate light shade.Cut back spreading species after flowering to maintain shaped. Divide larger, herbaceous species every 3 or 4 years to improve flowering in spring. zones 4-9
