Sanvitalia – Creeping Zinnia – There are 7 creeping and spreading annual and short lived perennial, in the daisy family, in this genus.   They naturally occur in rocky slopes and dry river washes in Southwestern USA and Mexico. They produce opposite, simple, ovate leaves, and bear daisy-like , bright yellow, orange, or white flowers with purplish black or white centers. Creeping Zinnias provide colorful groundcover in an annual or herbaceous border, raised bed, or rock garden, or at the edge of a path.. They are also suitable for a trough, or for containers on a patio. Modern cultivars are good for hanging baskets. Grow in moderately fertile, humus rich, well drained soil in full sun. S. procumbens – This prostrate, mat forming annual from Mexico grows 8″ tall and 15-18″ wide. It produces pointed, ovate mid green leaves, to 2 ½” long. Bears single, black centered, bright yellow flowerheads, to 3/4″ across, over a long period from early summer to early autumn. Zones 8-11
