R. virginiana- R. lucida – Virginia Rose- This species rose from Eastern North America grows 3-6′ feet tall and 3-5′ feet wide.From colorful red stems it carries glossy, dark green leaves, composed of 5-9 obovate to oblong-elliptic leaflets, up to 2 ½” long, that orange-red in autumn.For a while in June it bears cupped to flat, single, pale to bright pink flowers, that are 2-3″ across, are held singlyor in clusters of up to 8.Flowers are followed by spherical, orange-red hips in autumn.Tolerates a lot of shade, and usually not bothered by diseases or pests.
