Description

R. sanguineum – Flowering Currant – Winter Currant – Red Flowering Currant – This upright, spineless, deciduous shrub from Western North America grows 6-10′ feet tall and 6′ feet wide.It produces rounded, 3 to 5 lobed, toothed, aromatic, dark green leaves, 2-4″ long, heart shaped at the bases, and slightly hairy above, white hairy beneath, hang on red-brown branches.In spring, before the leaves emerge it bears tubular, pink to red flowers held in pendent racemes to 4″ long.Flowers are followed by spherical, deep blue-black fruit, to 1/4″ across.

Grow in moderately fertile, well drained soil in full sun.
