R. aromatica – Fragrant Sumac – Lemon Sumac – Polecat Bush – This mound forming, suckering, deciduous shrub from Eastern North America grows 3-5′ feet tall and 5′ feet wide.It produces 3 palmate, aromatic leaves, to 4″ long, are softly hairy or almost hairless, with oval sharply toothed, dark green leaflets, that turn orange to red purple in autumn.In mid spring it bears tiny yellow flowers in small, erect, ovoid panicles, 3/4″ long.In mid summer it bears red fruit.
Grow in moist but well drained, moderately fertile soil, in full sun to obtain best autumn color, with shelter from wind.Tolerant of air pollution.
