Prunus – Ornamental cherry – Prunus ‘Okame’

Prunus ‘Okame’ deciduous tree blooms in mid spring sometimes sold in containers or by thickness of trunk and height which would be balled and burlap P. ‘Okame’ – This bushy, deciduous tree or shrub is a cross between P. campanulata and P. incisa grows 25-30′ feet tall and 25′ feet wide. It produces narrowly oval, sharply toothed, dark green leaves, to 3″ long, turning vivid orange tones in autumn. In early spring before the leaves, profuse single, cup shaped, clear, bright pink flowers, 3/4-1″ across, are held in clusters of 2-5 and emerge from reddish buds Grow in any moist but well drained, moderately fertile, humus enriched soil, deciduous species and cultivars in full sun, evergreens in full sun or partial shade. Trim deciduous hedges after flowering. Protect from strong wind. Feed with high nitrogen fertilizer. Few are drought tolerant. Zones 5-8
