Polygonatum odoratum variegatum -Polygonatum officinale – Fragrant Solomon’s Seal

Description

P. odoratum – P. officinale – Fragrant Solomon’s Seal – This creeping, rhizomatous perennial from Europe, Caucasus, and Russia to Japan grows 36″ tall and 12″ wide.From arching angular stems it carries alternate, lance shaped to ovate, hairless leaves, 2-6″ long, usually in 2 rows.In late spring and early summer it bears 1 or 2 pendent, tubular, fragrant, green tipped white flowers, to 1 1/4″ long, are followed by spherical black fruit, 1/4″ across.

Variegatum’ – produces white edged leaves and pendent, creamy white flowers all along the stems.

Grow in fertile, humus rich, moist but well drained soil in full or partial shade. Cut back to the rhizome in fall. Divide in spring.
