Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Darts Gold’ – Spiraea opulifolius – Common Ninebark

Description

P. opulifolius – Spiraea opulifolius – Common Ninebark – This compact, thicket forming shrub, spreading by suckers is from Central and Eastern North America and grows 10′ feet tall and 15′ feet wide.From arching branches it carries rounded, heart shaped 3 lobed, alternate doubly toothed, mid green leaves, to 3″ long.It has dark brown peeling bark.In late spring and early summer it bears small, cup shaped pink tinged white or entirely pink flowers, held in dense corymbs, 2-3″ across.Flowers are followed by clusters of bladder like, green flushed red fruit, 1/4″ long.

‘Dart’s Gold’ – grows 4-6′ feet tall and 8′ feet wide and produces bright yellow young foliage and white flowers flushed pink.

Grow in preferably acidic, fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun or partial shade.May become chlorotic if grown in alkaline soil.
