P. tuberosa – This erect, tuberous, perennial found from Central and Southeastern Europe to Central Asia and grows 5′ feet tall and 3-4′ feet wide. It produces elongated heart shaped, softly hairy, mid green leaves, with toothed edges, to 10″ long. In summer it bears small purple to pink flowers, to 1″ long, held in whorls of up to 40.
Grow in any fertile, well drained soil in full sun. They are drought tolerant and best in an open position where foliage can dry out after rain. Divide perennials in spring.
