Description
M. pensylvanica – Northern Bayberry – Bayberry – Candleberry – This large, upright, rounded, dense, suckering, deciduous to semi evergreen shrub from the sand dunes of the East coast of North America.It produces lance shaped, smooth edged or shallowly toothed, aromatic, softly hairy, glossy, dark green leaves, 1 ½-4″ long.In spring before the leaves it bears yellowish green male catkins, to ½” long, followed by waxy, grayish white fruit, 1/4″ across in autumn, persisting through winter.Good for poor soil conditions or seashore garden.
Grow in humus rich, moist soil.
