Monarda citriodora – Lemon Mint – This annual species from Central and Southern USA and Northern Mexico grows to 24″ tall. Its curved tubular flowers are scented and usually white, pink or purplish, and have a hairy mouth.
Grow in moderately fertile, humus rich, moist but well drained soil in full sun or dappled shade. Protect from excessive winter moisture, do not allow to dry out in summer. Divide in spring.
Prone to powdery mildew, rust, and leaf spot.
