F. japonica – Polygonum cuspidatum – Reynoutria japonica – Japanese Knotweed – This creeping or climbing rhizomatous perennial, often forming extensive colonies grows to 10′ feet high. It produces elliptic to broadly ovate leaves, to 6″ long. White flowers are borne in late summer to fall.
Grow in any poor to moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil, in full sun or partial shade. Provide strong, durable supports, a vigorous specimen can pull down a small tree or weak support.
