Description
H. villosa – This mound forming perennial from the Appalachian Mountains, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas grows 18″ tall and 12″ wide. It produces triangular, pointed, shallowly 7 to 9 lobed, softly hairy, glossy, mid green leaves, 1 1/4-5″ long, with scalloped edges. In summer it bears panicles, 3 ½-18″ long, of green tipped, white rarely pink flowers, with broadly lance shaped petals.
‘Caramel’ – grows to 10-15″ inches tall and in July-August it bears cream flowers and large, golden caramel leaves.
Grow in fertile, moisture retentive but well drained soil in sun or partial shade, full shade may be tolerate in a moist site.The woody rootstock tends to grow upward, so mulch annually, eventually lift and replant in late summer or early autumn, with just the crown above the soil surface, or replace with new plants. Divide every 3 or 4 years in autumn or early spring
