There’s 100 species with more then 8,000 hybrids orginating from mountainous areas of Central and South America and New Zealand. Attractive, distinctive flowers are borne more or less continuously from summer to autumn.
Trailing varieties are great for hanging baskets, window box, or trough, or shrub and bush varieties in containers
They do not tolerate high summer heat, drought, and high humidity, preferring cooler less humid conditions.
Outdoors, grow in fertile, moist but well drained soil in full morning sun to partial afternoon shade. Fertilize once a month.
