Description
C. salicifolius – C. floccosus of gardens – Willowleaf Cotoneaster – This vigorous, evergreen shrub from Western China grows 10-15′ feet tall and wide.From arching branches it produces elliptic-lance shaped, dark green leaves, to 4″ long with a network of veins deeply impressed and felty underside.Leaves take on bronze and yellow tones in autumn.In summer it bears cymes of 30-100 white flowers, followed almost, spherical, glossy, bright red fruit, 1/4″ long.Makes a fine hedge plant
‘Repens’ – is a prostrate form
Grow in moderately fertile, well drained soil, most will tolerate dry positions.Deciduous species prefer full sun.Large and medium sized evergreen thrive in sun or partial shade.In an exposed situations the may need protection from cold, drying winds.Most need little regular pruning but will tolerate hard pruning to produces tight hedges or to renovate.
