Caccinia –
There are about 6 species of biennial and perennials, in this genus. They occur in Western and Central Asia. They produces several leafy stems, mostly with harsh bristly hairs, usual grow from the rootstock, though the narrow leaves themselves are mostly smooth and hairless. The star shaped flowers, borne in short terminal sprays, are similar to those of borage itself.
Frost hardy, suitable for sunny border or hot positions in the rock garden. The soil must be open and well drained. They tolerate dry condition.
C. macranthera – This perennial from the mountains from Eastern Turkey to the Western Himalayas grows 24″ tall. It produces crowded oblong, gray-green leaves which are up to 8″ long, and in spring and early summer it bears purplish blue flowers about 3/4″ wide. Most often seen is C. m. var. crassifolia with thicker , shorter leaves.
