Theirs are single species of a perennial, in this genus. It occurs from moist woodlands or found on the banks of lake and streams in Eastern Asia. It produces rounded clumps of large lobed leaves. It bears panicles to 5’ feet tall of numerous small creamy white flowers.
Grow in cool, moist, humus rich soil, in partial shade. If grown by water plant with roots above water level. Divide in spring.
Prone to slug damage.
Astilboides tabularis – Rodgersia tabularis – This clump forming perennial from Northeastern China and Northern Korea grows to 5’ feet tall and spreads to 4’ feet wide. It produces shallowly but often sharply lobed, softly haired, light green leaves to 36” long. In early and mid summer it bears plume like panicles of numerous tiny creamy white flowers.
