Antennaria – Cat’s ears – Pussy-toes – Ladies Tobacco There are 45 mostly evergreen or near evergreen dense mat forming with some few mound perennials in this genus.  Found in open habitats in the Northern hemisphere.   They bear rosettes of hairy silver gray leaves and root as they spread.  In summer corymbs-like heads of small everlasting flower heads on short stems with papery bracts are borne.  Great for in rock gardens, as low ground cover or in crevices or as cut flowers. Grow these frost hardy plants in any moderately fertile well-drained soil in full sun to light shade.  Divide in spring. Prone to Phyllosticta and Septoria leaf spots, powdery mildew and smut. Antennaria dioica ‘Nyewoods’ – Catsfoot – This compact stoloniferous semi evergreen perennial grows 2” tall and spreads to about 8” wide.  This mat of rosettes of narrow spoon to lance shaped 1 ½” long dark green leaves with white woolly on the undersides.  In early summer on strong 8” stems bear clusters of deep pink flower heads.  Female flowers are larger then males.
