Description

Anemonopsis There is a single species of a frost hardy rhizomatous clump forming perennial, in this genus. It derives from woodlands in Japan. It produces alternate glossy dark green leaves with lobed or sharply toothed leaflets and bear racemes or loose panicle of pendent lilac and violet flowers. Great for woodland garden or hung in a basket or off a terrace and viewed from below. Grow in deep cool moist, moderately fertile, humus rich, acidic soil, in partial shade and with protection from drying winds. Can be divided. Anemonopsis macrophylla – This clump forming perennial grows to 30” tall and 18” wide. It produces alternate glossy hairless dark green leaves 2 ½-4” long with diamond shaped to egg shape to oblong that are sharply toothed often 3 lobed leaflets. Mid and late summer it bears racemes of nodding cup shaped, 1 ¼” wide flowers with 3 waxy lilac sepal and several rows of 7-10 smaller violet petals. Zones 5-8
