Adiantum pedatum – American Maidenhair – Northern maidenhair Fern – Derives from eastern North America and is a cold hardy species. Grows 2’ feet tall and 2’ feet wide with wedge shaped mid green leaflets ovate to kidney shaped arranged in neat rows along radiating spoke from the glossy dark brown or black stalks. Plant in oversize container. They do not like a dry atmosphere and to much wetness. Remove old fronds as needed. In outdoor situations grow hardy species in moist well-drained moderately fertile soil in partial shade. Prone to scale insects, leaf spots. Fungal root rots are rare.
