Description

Acradenia Two species are in this Genus of large evergreen shrubs or small trees.  One derives the East coast Australia and the other Tasmania.  Bearing aromatic deep green trifoliate leaves with grainy leathery texture.  Small panicles of white flowers are quite showy epically against their green foliage. Introduced to the British Isles over 100 years ago and proved to attractive garden subject.  The main land species require mild conditions with very little frost. Acradenia frankliniae tougher adapts well in cultivation but needs protection from hard frost.  Thrive in neutral to slightly acidic soil well-drained humus rich and has remain moist through summer. Acradenia frankliniae – Whitey Wood – Native to Tasmania where it can grow 20 feet tall in its natural habitant. Named in honor of an early British governor, wife Lady Franklin.  In cultivation Acradenia reaches10 feet tall.  Flowers early summer with individual flowers being ¼” across their clustered and are quite showy.  Forms a neat conical shape that require light pruning to keep its shape. Zones 8-10
