White blister Common name White blister Causal agent White blister is a fungal disease caused by oomycetes belonging to the genus Albugo and Pustula, especially Albugo candida. It is mainly seen on brassica crops, such as broccoli and cauliflower. Scientific name Albugo spp. Pustula spp. Symptoms & Signs The initial symptoms include small leaf spots, which further transform into pustules on the underside of the leaves, releasing powdery spores. The pustules may be random or arranged in a concentric ring with purple margins. It causes plant distortion with sunken pits on the leaves, deformed stems and flowers, and protrusions with white blisters. Transmission The fungal spores spread by means of wind, water, soil, infected seed, and seedlings. Wet conditions such as dew or rainwater on the leaves and stems with a temperature between 10°C to 25°C is the optimum environment for disease development.
