Magnesium Deficiency
Magnesium deficiency
Common name
Magnesium deficiency
Causal agent
It is caused by a deficiency of magnesium in the soil or a heavy potassium fertilizer that inhibits the uptake of magnesium from the soil.
Symptoms & Signs
Magnesium is necessary for the formation of chlorophyll. Hence, in case of magnesium deficiency, the interveinal regions of the leaves turn yellow. In some cases, a reddish brown tint is visible, along with premature falling of the leaves. The chlorosis affects mature leaves first and gradually moves to younger ones. In severe conditions, chlorosis can develop into necrosis of the foliage.
