Fluoride Toxicity

Fluoride toxicity Common name Fluoride toxicity Causal agent Fluoride toxicity is commonly caused by an overdose of fluoride due to irrigation from city water and fertilizers rich in superphosphates. The damage gradually moves inwards, causing dead, necrotic spots on the entire foliage. Symptoms & Signs Tip burns or brown necrotic spots at the tips and margins are initial symptoms of fluoride toxicity. High fluoride concentration can inhibit basic regulatory processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, and transpiration in plants. This leads to nutrient deficiency and, eventually, necrosis. A few plants also show yellowing or tan discoloration of the leaves. Time of concern Throughout the year Common hosts Spider plant Lilies Spikes Dracena Apricot Grape
