Fertilizer Burn
Fertilizer burn
Common name
Fasiation fertilizer burn
Causal agent
It is a non-pathological plant disease caused by excessive fertilization, leading to nutrient toxicity, especially nitrogen.
Symptoms & Signs
The most common symptoms involving fasiation fertilizer burn include yellow or brown leaves. It starts with the curling of the leaves, which eventually falls off. The soluble salts in the fertilizer create an osmotic stress which dehydrates the plant. The roots also show rot along with black or brown discoloration. In the case of over-fertilizing a lawn, you can see dry patches of grass and discolored streaks throughout the area.
