Causal agent
Edema is a non-pathological, physiological disorder caused by high moisture content in the air and soil. The plant absorbs more water than it can transpire, which leads to an unappealing appearance.
Symptoms & Signs
It is characterized by water-soaked patches on the leaves, stems, and flowers that become swollen. The swollen spots may burst, giving a scaly, rust appearance. It starts from older leaves, especially near the margins. A few leaves also wither and fall off. High humidity, low temperature, and poor ventilation increase the chances of edema.
