Territory: It is found in Canada and the United States. Life history and Habits: Its larvae feed beneath the bark of alder and birch trees, producing oval-shaped holes and usually girdling the stems. Young larvae begin eating close beneath the bark and progress to the middle of the branches. The mature insect’s dark hue and oblique lines look like a withered leaf.
