Iron Deficiency and Lime-Induced Chlorosis
Iron deficiency and lime induced chlorosis
Common name
Iron deficiency
Lime-induced chlorosis
Causal agent
It is caused by the inability of the plants to take up iron from the soil due to inadequate pH, ie, 6.5 or lower. Insufficient iron in the plant inhibits chlorophyll formation leading to chlorosis.
Symptoms & Signs
The first symptom of iron deficiency is seen in mature leaves that turn yellow in the interveinal regions. As the disease progresses, the chlorosis may spread to the entire leaf only, leaving the veins green. The fruits are also low quality fruits.
