The disease is distinguished on the basis of small, purple, and black spots on the foliage and fruit. As the disease progresses, the spots transform into brown lesions along with leaf and fruit drops. The stems may also show cankers, causing the death of the shoots. It causes cracks and lesions on the fruit rendering it useless, as well as inhibiting bud formation the following season.
