Bolting Common name Bolting Causal agent It can be caused due to temperature fluctuations, late transplanting, aged seedlings, or poor fertilization. Most commonly seen in onion crops, but leeks, beetroots, celery, and other vegetables may also be affected. Symptoms & Signs It is characterized by the early appearance of seed stalks which hampers the growth and development of bulbs. This results in less yield of the bulbs. Temperatures below 45° F increases the risk of bolting in crops. Large transplants have a greater chance of bolting than smaller ones.
