Anasa wilt is caused by a squash bug that transmits the Serratia marcescens bacterium from its saliva into the plants. It mainly attacks the cucurbits such as squash, melons, and gourds.

Symptoms & Signs
Squash bug secretes highly toxic saliva containing Serratia marcescens bacterium into the plant. The leaves turn black, wilt, and die following the secretion of toxic saliva and necrosis of xylem tissues. Besides leaf necrosis, the fruit is also scarred and sunken, which increases fruit rot during storage.
