Erinus – Fairy Foxglove – Alpine Balsam – There are 2 species of small growing, semi evergreen perennials, it this genus. They occur in in rocky mountains in North Africa, and Central and Southern Europe. They produces rosettes of inversely lance shaped to wedge shaped, toothed and terminal racemes of tubular flowers with 5 spreading lobes. They are ideal for a rock garden, a wall, or paving crevices. Grow in light to moderately fertile, well drained soil in full sun or partial shade with adequate water during summer. E. alpinus – Alpine Liverwort – This short lived, tufted perennial from the Alps of Central and Southern Europe grows 3″ tall and 4″ wide. It produces inversely lance shaped to wedge shaped, sticky medium green leaves, to 3/4″ long. From late spring to summer it bears short racemes of 2 lipped, pink, purple, or white starry flowers, to ½” across. Zones 4-7
